Born at Tournon where the poet Mallarmé taught English, Michel Chabran belongs to that generation of chefs de cuisine who love to combine tradition with modernity drawing on the generous richness of their native soil to which they shall remain faithful all their lives. His garden is there, at the confluence of the Rhône and the Isère, in an ideal temperate climate at Pont de l’Isère on the National Road 7.
He learned his cooking skills from his mother and his grandmother, between the vineyard and the river and beneath the cherry trees of the estate. He then transformed the little family café into a prestigious restaurant, where there were to be seen King of Spain as well as Catherine Deneuve or Laurent Gerra all of whom appreciate the charm of the hotel. Chabran’s face shows what he is, namely, the possessor of unique taste, with the mouth of a gourmet, the eye of a connoisseur, the skilled movements and a quiet voice when he speaks about his most recent recipes. His cuisine possesses a flavour unlike any other, the Chabran flavour.
